On the record: where I stand

Your money

£577 million of your money a year. My committee’s job is to ask where it goes, in public, line by line.

Where I stand

£577 million a year is your money, and you are owed a clear account of where it goes. As Chairman of the Finance & Resources Select Committee, my job is to help scrutinise that budget on behalf of more than 570,000 residents, in public, with every member given a fair hearing, so that the council runs both effectively and efficiently. Protecting taxpayers is not new for me: before I took the chair, I pressed at the Strategic Sites Committee for developer contributions to be secured before projects go ahead. I will keep asking where the money goes.
