Highway safety needs evidence, not assumptions
The East and South Buckinghamshire Area Planning Committee also considered an application to change part of the ground floor of 80 High Street, Iver, from retail to a place of worship and community use.
As I said at the meeting, this was not about the use itself: community facilities have real value. My concern was safety. The site sits on a corner by a busy mini roundabout, with no off-street parking. The Highway Authority had asked for a parking survey at peak times, and the survey provided did not meet that standard. I pressed officers on what evidence had changed their advice, and argued that without it the committee could not be satisfied the use would be safe.
The committee refused the application on highway safety grounds, on the Chairman's casting vote.
