I know, from speaking to hundreds of residents, as well as from our surveys and being a driver myself, that one of the issues that residents are really animated about is the state of our roads. This is especially the case after winter when road conditions are tougher, including with emerging new potholes. I am absolutely determined to fix them and we are mending as many as we can.
A particularly tricky issue are the potholes by Station Road over the bridge. You see - that part of the road is managed by Network Rail, and comes with its own heap of regulations, including the need of a Network Rail inspector to give permission and a hefty fee of £5k-6k. As part of our commitment to spend taxpayer's money wisely, we are looking at a County wide approach so that we can resurface the road efficiency in one programme to save you money.
I'll keep pushing for this as it annoys me a lot too to have such potholes right on our high street.
More broadly, we have committed to a record £120 million over the next term of office to fixing and improving our roads. So it's on the top of our minds and will be able to fix even more roads in the future.
