I recently chaired the Standards and General Purposes Committee, where I have always sought to act in a non partisan way, ensuring every councillor has a voice and that we fully explore options with officers to improve how the council works, including support for parish councils.
Over the past year we have achieved a great deal, including passing an amendment to improve transparency on allowances. At this meeting we reviewed Member Code of Conduct complaints and asked officers to return with practical proposals to strengthen culture, training and transparency across the council and our town and parish councils.
As this may be the last meeting before potential changes in committee membership, I would like to place on record my thanks to all members for the constructive and collaborative way we have worked together.
